Video of the beetle at Baytown last Friday

I launched easy to keep my wheelspin to a minimum, and I lifted about 3/4 of the way down the track since I was already on the rev limiter and coasted to a 14.1. The truck in the other lane ran a 16.8.

The El Camino is back!

Hooray?

It will be unvieled this week at the NYAIS, and will be on sale next year as a 2010 model. It won't be called an "El Camino" though. It's just a rebadged version of the GM's Australian Holden "Ute".

More Automotive Insanity

Project F Bomb

Hot Rod Magazine has been doing this buildup for a while. It's got a Nelson Racing Engines twin turbo small block, pumping out 900hp on pump gas, 1500hp on race gas, and it's completely streetable and there are guys driving similar Nelson motors on the street everyday.

It's got suede army green paint with the bomber graphics, and the roll cage, drivetrain, and suspension to match the power. Even though I don't like Camaro's , I'd rather have this than a viper or ferrari any day.

Eastbound and Down...

We gonna do what they say can't be done.
We got a long way to go, and a short time to get there.
I'm east bound just watch ol' bandit run!

Year One recreates the "Bandit" Trans Am

"There will be three variations on the Bandit theme, BAN1, thru BAN3. All cars have full body restorations first. Floors are replaced, as are other needed panels, so that the hi-po Ponchos have the best basis to build from. Flush-mounted glass, smooth fender flares, custom projector headlights and LED taillights update the basic car. Chassis mods firm up the structure with subframe connectors, tubular control arms and high performance bushings and springs. The interiors get pimped out in the same custom fashion, with "Bandit" inserts on the door panels, modern seats, a race-inspired gauge cluster and the requisite CB radio. It wouldn't be a Bandit car if you couldn't pick up that mic and say "Snoman, gotcher ears on?" BAN2 and BAN3 packages get increasing amounts of performance from monster aluminum 455s or LS-derived engines, as well as further chassis tweaks and more toys inside the cockpit, like a nav system and race harnesses."

Donk racing. Yeah, you read that right.

I love it when people modify cars without understanding how they work.

In case someone doesn't know what a "donk" is, here's a link to a donks, boxes, and bubbles article at Cardomain. There's even a magazine with the same name, which I'm sure you'll all get right now!

The Booty Don't Stop

So another cool thing from Found Magazine.

Found magazine is a magazine that publishes things that people found. Letters on the street, love letters found in an attic, notes in a box from a garage sale etc. They're funny, sad, eye-opening, and all that. They came to Houston on tour with some of their best stuff a while back but it was the day before I left for my California trip so I didn't have time to make it. Check out the site and the magazine, you'll enjoy it.

From the site (be sure to read the tracklisting. It's hilarious.):

An instant classic! A few years back Nigel Morgan found a mysterious, unmarked cassette-tape on the streets of Ypsilanti, Michigan. What he heard was a demo tape with a deep voice rapping over Casio drum beats and every song was a booty-rap anthem! With a musical aesthetic somewhere between Jay-Z and Wesley Willis, this rapper unwittingly created an album of booty-bliss. After the tape circulated around Southeast Michigan for a couple of years, Morgan brought the tape to us, and we just had to share it with everyone. Right after we released the tapes, the unknown artist came forward - Tim Schreiber!

I have a new hero.

Gigi Galli. The jump at the beginning is fucking rockstar, and the drift around the hairpin made me giddy.

Theres a second video on the page thats 4 minutes long. At first I thought the song on it was cheesy, then I realized it's awesome in a "Tenacious D" sort of way. It's called "Hard Rock Hallelujah" and they say "the rockopalypse" and a few other awesome phrases in it.
